Analyse 3 Video's - Video 3 Jaws

This is the opening to the most classic horror film to date. Like most horror films it uses a darker scene to create a more fearful effect. another typical technique of a horror film that this film uses is the 'Damsel in Distress' technique. They use a young beautiful woman to be one of the first few victims in the film. Her screams show the raw fear in her during the attack making the audience feel like they are there in the water. It also does not allow the audience to see the attacker, in this case a shark, leaving the imagination of the audience to decide who or what it is, often creating a more frightful image in their own minds.

In this opening you also do not see what is attacking the victims, however you can hear the snarls and roars and the banging caused by it. It is also in an extremely dark setting, leaving your sound senses higher than normal making you focus on the fear in the people's screams and panic in thier breath. You also have a gory scene where her arm is ripped off between the door and the monster, striking fear into the audience.

Analyse 3 Video's - Video 1 Resident Evil 3: Extinction

At the start it focuses on the characters eye, which is a technique often used in horrors, however i'm not sure why. Again they have used a young beautiful girl at the start. She is alone in a dark mansion, a setting that is extremely popular in horror. The makers used a mansion however as this film is based on the game which was first set in a far out mansion (See Resident Evil Game Opening below). They have sounds of fast movement behind her making her turn around in panic believeing something is their.
